Leveller 3.1, which is almost done now, will include automatic document-level storage of the scene's normal appearance and the map pane's appearance. Combined with moving some of the more common view items into the document, this almost entirely resolves the annoyance of not seeing things the way they looked in the last editing session.

When saving a document, it will store the scene's normal appearance from the active view. If the active view belongs to a different document (which can happen, e.g., if you are closing Leveller with multiple unsaved documents open), then the first window that belongs to the document will be used.

If you tend to use one window per document, then it should work fine. Otherwise, you just need to remember to use "File, Save" to save documents, and activate the window whose appearance settings you want the document to remember.

Older documents don't contain such appearance data, so they will use the default settings defined in Preferences until they are saved in 3.1.
