Thanks guys for your recommendations on a flash system for my R9. I'm going to get a Metz (w/ adapter) for the Leica. I'll probably sell the Nikon SB800 then as I don't use the Nikon system all that much and it makes no sense to keep a dedicated flash for it.

I use the Metz 54 MZ-4 with included SCA 3002 display and the Metz SCA 3502 M3 for Leica R8 and R9.

It has the bounce flash adjustable head and seems to respond well to lens (i.e., wide to tele) changes and aperture/speed adjustment always use it in full automatic and have never regretted doing so.

If you're into Second Curtain photography (I'm not) this unit supports that R8/R9 function and speeds to 1/8000.

I bought the Metz because with different lower modules, it will also work on Nikon, Canon, etc.

Bob

Sorry to say no experience with the SB series on R8 or R9.

I use the Metz with Leica R adaptor for full functionality.

Hello Guys,

I searched the list archives but I couldn't find anything on Nikon SB800 flashes and R cameras. Is anyone using this flash on R8/R9s and can share his experiences? I'm assuming TTL will not work but Auto and manual modes (on the flash) should work just fine. Other than the TTL issues, are there any compatibility problems?

Thanks,

Miguel Asensio
