Alternatives - heres one http://www.rpf-comms.com/ And with legislation the developers will probably come out with a whole raft of devices to meet the hands free application requirement Or maybe even the amateur community (GST) What do you think John? ----- Original Message ----- From: Michael Barrett To: karc@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, September 30, 2009 9:49 PM Subject: [SPAM][karc] Re: Fleamarket - headsup Rob, Yes, I imagine that they will nab people who do it a lot, but the thing is there is not enouh police to watch everyone. They will obviously have check points set up where they check on this issue just like they do with ride checks, but I am sure that they will not be able to enforce it as much as they would like do to the great number of people using cellphones, etc. One thing that is to our advantage, I think, is that the microphones are quite sensitive and you can probably keep the microphone in your lap, out of sight, so to speak, and still be heard. Not that I am planning on purposely breaking the law, but since I am the only licensed operator in my house and usually use the radio to and from work, the only time I really get to use the 2-meter is during this time. If they have some sort of handsfree unit available for my older radio, then it it quite possible I will go that route at some point, but, not sure if there is such a thing. Really do not want to have to invest in new equipment since I do not use it that often. I think it will be a full time job just trying to enforce this rule, considering how many people out there use cellphones, cb radio, ham radio, and other communications devices while driving. Should be interesting to see how it all works out. 73 de VA3KOC Michael and Tamara Barrett ----- Original Message ----- From: Valveman To: karc@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, September 30, 2009 9:35 PM Subject: [karc] Re: Fleamarket - headsup Michael; I think you are correct. Very hard to police. But i'm sure the police will nab quite a few just like they do with seatbelts. Yup some will get away with it but your chances of getting caught goes up the more you do it. Besides no Ham really needs to talk on the radio while driving. If you are a passenger then have at it. There is not enough law enforcement as it is right now to enforce the existing laws and there are a lot of drivers out there breaking all sorts of traffic laws and getting away with it because there is not enough police on the roads. I do not see how they think that they can enforce this law and stop everyone from using any kind of handheld device. I know that using a 2-meter mobile you can still use it and not have to take your eyes off the road as all we are doing is talking into a microphone. We do not need to type in phone numbers, look up contacts in an address book, or text using a phone keypad. All we do is press a button and talk. Just my thoughts on this issue. 73 de VA3Koc Michael and Tamara Barrett ----- Original Message ----- From: Les Lindstrom To: karc@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, September 30, 2009 9:14 PM Subject: [karc] Fleamarket - headsup looks like the word is already getting out - heard a bunch of chatter on 80 tonight that a bunch from out west are planning to make the trip here .
