Greetings All; While there may be lots of high tech ways of making a radio handsfree, we shouldn't overlook the easy and obvious. When I got my FT-817 several years ago the first accessory I made was a single headphone/boom mike with a PTT switch. The cost was $3 (mostly made from "junk box" bits and pieces - the $3 was for a Radio Shack mic element). The PTT switch is connected via a RCA jack so I can either use a foot switch or a push on/push off switch. This is very useful for mobile operations (which I seldom do) or for ARES work where this arrangement leaves my hands free for tuning radios or taking down messages. Notwithstanding the above, sometimes we do things just because we can. However, not all projects have to be complicated. Cheers...Dave, VA3ORP
