  6. The Cherokee "Trail of Tears," 1838-1839

    This site explores the effects of the 1830 Indian Removal Act and
    the 1838 Treaty of New Echola that forcibly evicted Cherokees from
    their homes to unsettled lands west of the Mississippi. This
    forced march caused the death of over 4,000 people, approximately
