Which version of Thunderbird are you using? The current version is 6.0.
I have just downloaded and installed the British English dictionary and
it works OK. Make sure that, having installed a new dictionary, you then
activate it via Options >> Check spelling >> Select language from
drop-down list in lower left corner of dialog box.

My blood pressure isn't helped by the spellchecker constantly trying to
have me "correct" words to the USA version. The only dictionary option
currently available is USA / ENGLISH. However one of the options is
Download Additional Dictionaries. I've tried that but now't seems to
happen. Am I missing something obvious.
