I didn't know that your property and buildings could be destroyed like that.
Surely if that happens it infers that, welcome or not, some sort of
legal/policing system is required to ensure the safety of users in SL and
their creations?

Which region are you moving to?

Bones,

I couldn't agree more.

I'm not sure how many of you keep an eye on the active forum threads on the
many FS sites but over the past 3 weeks the IFC organisation has faced some
incredibly damaging accusations, many of which simply weren't true, but
unfortunately some which did turn out to be a bit too close to home for IFC
to live them down.

Microsoft started it by withdrawing their support from IFC after some
disagreements over Mr Silcock's business practices. It then came to light
that Mr Silcock hadn't perhaps done as careful a job of keeping IFC's
finances away from his own interests, as one might expect.

As a result IFC has now folded and, as far as I am aware, there will be no
more IFC shows.

Anyway, the relevance of this to SL is that IFC actually owned all the land
that the "FS City" is situated on. All the tenants (and I have 3
organisations on there) either leased the land, or had it under some
reciprocal agreement with IFC.

Since the IFC troubles came to light there have been a series of attacks on
any land owned by Mr Silcock leading to "buildings" being demolished and
weeks of work down the drain, my VA was one of the worst to suffer.

Since IFC is no longer around we can't guarantee the land around us wont be
sold to undesirables, or that we wont come under further "attacks" So we are
currently going to be moving, as a whole (of the community currently
situated in the FS area) to a better organised and managed area.

.....and then we hope it doesn't happen all over again.

Why are you moving from the FS region? I thought it would be better to
concentrate all the FS related buildings in one place.

Ah well now I joined SL just after Christmas at the insistence of Mark
Silcock of IFC (Although we don't mention his name now given the.....events
of the past few weeks;) )

I put my VA up, and also "Bought land" for my Sound business.... I have to
say that it is entirely responsible for the intake of 90% of my new VA
pilots, and responsible for around 12% of my monthly turnover at Turbine
Sound Studios since.

We hardly have a presence (and are currently in the process of moving from
one area to another) yet still it brings people, and money, in.
Say what you like about these geek works, as a business man its hard to
ignore results.

Its been a brilliant source of info too. Only last week I met a Lufthansa
Airbus captain who has been able to forward me some performance figures I
was after, I've also managed to score some development contracts with
Flight1 and 2 other projects.

I think that as a business its a great place to be...but If I were an
individual...I'd be bored within about 5 minutes. Not my cup of tea at all.

I looked at SL a while back but although interesting it doesn't grab my

enthusiasm as much as, say, Myst Online. The only part of SL that I was

curious about (and still dabble with) is the object designer - it's a bit

like GMax but you can create soft as well as hard objects that react to

gravity and wind. It would be nice if GMax was easier to use with such

materials.

Whenever I've looked into the PCI voice server recently it seems that the

'developers' (or whatever they now call themselves) seem to be spending most

of their time on-line playing (?) something called 'Second Life' ...
