But I think I have tried every trick I could find, I still think it is due to dust entering through the levers slots, and settling on the carbon sliders.
A blast of compressed air may clear it, that is my next trick to try.
But at the moment, my secondary quadrant has decided to work again (that had the same problem a few months back). So that is now doing duty as the main engine controller. And that was worse, with 2 levers unstable. FSX does not have an .ini file, it has control.xml file, in which I have had to match the ranges for the two quadrants after setup, they are never the same.

You've mentioned you've plugged in other controllers and don't have a
problem with them. Could there be an issue with the controllers in the ini
file conflicting?  I know you say you've done the registry trick but have
you cleared all the controller info from your ini files and then tried
re-configuring rather than just tweaking them from within FSX?

I know I'm using fs9 and your now using FSX but it may still be relevant.

I have two fs9.ini files, one contains the configuration for my Saitek yoke, the other for my Logitech joystick (used maybe once or twice to demonstrate
helicopters but otherwise redundant).

If you want to try calibrating using FSUIPC then delete all the axes in the
FS calibration menus, run FSUIPC and follow these instructions:

Tried everything, even deleted the registry entries as per Saitek
instructions. As far as FSUIPC, I have the registered version, but baulked
at trying to set it up.
Basically, moving the lever slowly and smoothly, the lever on the screen,
and the power output of the aircraft is plain erratic, suddenly jumps to
full power, then back to idle, then bounces. And that is when trying to do
it slow. Leaving the lever in one position, it sort of settles down, but
just touch it, and it is away again.
Makes it rather difficult to taxi, and get a smooth approach. Once on
cruise, it is a little easier to set the levers to the required settings.
I suspect the carbon tracks are knackered, as it is all to easy for dust to
collect inside the unit, and you cannot get inside without surgery.
It is not my machine or OS or FSX, as plugging in another joystick is no
problem at all.
I am waiting on Saitek to come back, but they have reorganized/outsourced
their response department

My pedals are plugged direct into the back of the machine. The yoke direct
into the front or back. The main controller is plugged into the Yoke, via
mini round plug, the secondary, a standard USB plug, either into the front
or back, or the yoke.
Would have been better if the main controller had a USB plug as well.
Plugging in other joysticks, they are steady as a rock. The fact that it
is
only the one lever, which is the most used, which is causing the problem.
I do not think the life cycle of those carbon sliders is very high.
As I recall, I had no problem with either, before reinstalling Vista a
fair
while ago. Only since then.
Perhaps an upgrade to Win7 will do the trick, or not as the case may be.
Or perhaps deleting all the Hub devices in the device manager, and let
Windows recreate them would help. There is a lot of them.

Mine are both fine. I thought they were going downhill, a couple of
months ago, coincident with the change to W7. Eventually I sorted them
out, by a mixture of uninstall followed by reinstall, plus changing the
USB Hub into which they were plugged. I think it was the last move that
cured them, so it would be worth trying this first. Best bet might be to
try plugging one of them directly into a USB socket on the PC, then see
how it behaves.

The downside of a large number of USB connected addons seems to be
unwanted interaction. Occasionally I find that changing something like
an ADF frequency can also result in a change in my GF Autopilot's
Altitude setting.

reducing electrical contact. A very poor design.

I am now faced with the prospect of replacing said controllers, sooner
rather than later than expected. The Yoke and Pedals are A1.

Depending on Saiteks response.

Replacement controllers. Saitek? Costing?
Replacement controllers CH? Costing?
Or dig out my soldering iron, and replace the pots with sealed rotary
ones. A new housing for the larger pots will be needed of course.

Anyone else with Saitek throttle controllers, beware. I got mine from
Pixmania, so I am not expecting a good response from Saitek.

I am not a happy bunny.
