Hi Frank,

As a replacement for the Herc, it carries much more, and it flies much faster, hence what took several Hercs to shift can be done by a single C17. I think that was one reason why they leased them to start with, they didn't know how few they needed.

Thanks Frank T, and those who replied.
Wondered if it was a C17, query a replacement for the aging C130 Hercules??
At least 8 - 10 of these overflew through out the day from early am to pm.
Re Standlake, Lincoln Farm Park is located central, camping and caravanning site. Was there for 5 nights.
Was also another AC at times, will post that for ID when I find the file.
RAF Fairford is also a few miles SE of Brize. Wondered if that was the other destination.

Hi Frank,

I'm not a plane spotter, but being a local I know that these are C17s
from as I recall 99 Squadron at Brize. I have been shown around the
insides of one (pre 09/11), they are interesting as they are really
designed to do their job efficiently, they have an internal railway
system to speed the loading and unloading, I forget how many tanks
they can carry, but its pretty impressive.

In the early days they were leased from the USA, I don't know if we
ever got around to buying any, but they are kept pretty busy, as you
will have noticed.

I don't know what the attraction of Standlake is though?

On holiday last week, at Standlake. Approx 14 miles west of Oxford,

These things kept thundering overhead at around 2000ft, assuming
that on APP Brize Norton.
Please ID for me??
