I have that all the time, but it doesn't annoy me really. I think it has to do with the fact that you apparently have this little tiny window space (like this flashing icon or mini window in the corner of the screen) and so it just sits there and flashes just for a brief moment, whereas JAWS is reading the contact info in its entirety as it is on the contact list when you press the keystroke to tell it to say the last alert. Could be wrong, but it's something like that. Mark

Subject: windows live messenger and when someone signs in

Hi folks. I don't really know if this is a screenreader specific thing. But A while ago, when I upgraded to the latest and supposedly greatest version of Windows Live Messenger, one thing that really began to annoy me is that when someone signed in with a particularly long screen name, it got cut off. For example, if someone's name said something like, Toonhead, can't wait for the next harry potter book to come out! What happens is, it gets cut off, and you hear, Toonhead, can't wait for the... has just signed in.

It didn't do this with older versions of WLM, so figuring that going back to an older version might fix the problem, that's what I did. But as you can probably guess, the problem still persists. Is this happening with anyone else using Windows Live Messenger, and if so, is there a setting that I can change so the entire screen name is read when someone signs in? When I hit the keystroke to hear the last person who signed in, the entire screen name is read out, but when they sign in, it isn't. So if anyone has any kind of idea what to do I would very very much appreciate it! I hate having to go to my contact list every time someone I want to talk to signs in with a different screen name just so I can tell what it is.

Thanks.
