Hi Nicol, Try this:After your computer starts, and Jaws stops talking, press alt tab, then check the title bar.
I have several machines that exhibit this behavior, and Jaws simply doesn't have the focus when on the desktop at this time. Once I alt tab, life is good. HTH, Richard Justice www.blind-computing.com----- Original Message ----- From: "nicol" <nicoljacobus@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

HII'm using windows xp professional service pack 2. After my computer startedI'm suppose to be on the desktop but if I press insert+t jaws remains silent. If I then press insert+f1 jaws says: jaws may not recognize this control. If I press tab then I'm on the desktop.Jaws is only suppose to say this if I'm in an application which doesn't has standard controls, whose controls is custom. This cause no problem for me,I'm just curious as to why jaws says: jaws may not recognize this control, if I press insert+f1 just after my computer started after I find that insert+t says nothing? It seems as if jaws couldn't at that moment recognize that I'm on the desktop so maybe it's a bug in jaws, but as I say this only happens after my computer started. If my computer is booting up and then jaws says: jaws for windows is readyand I hear the tune playing to let me know windows is up and running, then after that tune played I wait a moment for jaws to say that I'm on thedesktop, but then jaws says nothing and its then when I press insert+t thatjaws says nothing and if I then press insert+f1 jaws says: jaws may not recognize this control. If it is that no window has focus, then jaws should rather say: no window is active. But seemingly this is another type of non focus which jaws seesas a custom control not defined in its window classes. Btw I'm using jaws7,at this stage I can't afford jaws8. -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.comJFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxTo unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.Archives located at: //www.freelists.org/archives/jfwIf you have any concerns about the list, post received from the list, or the way the list is being run, do not post them to the list.
