repairs before updates

Hi list,
a friend sent me 3 emails today from a list he is a member of it is jaws only,
and they were all explaining that now before getting in any Jaws update they
run a repair first, surely we should not have to protect ourselves from Jaws
updates or enhancements! I have just had my laptop cleaned off and finally
registered all the software again and shall be very wary of the next update
