Hi Dave,

Thanks, but I'm quite aware of that. I was a sighted PC user for nearly
twenty years before I lost sight of these things and began to use jaws. All
I was saying was that I'd simply forgotten, the way I've forgotten the names
of some streets in my city for not having seen them in passing for too
long. I didn't forget that the streets were there, or where they ran to. So
I wasn't arguing with you in any substantive way. I get where you're coming
from, because another credentialed teacher on the lists tends also to
carefully describe and catalogue such things when proferring instruction in
a mailing list post. I respect that. But this wasn't where I was coming
from, if you will. Or no problem, as we say.

Thanks.

As you are aware, if you were not running JAWS, the number pad does behave
as a number pad when the NUM LOCK is turned on and as a "Navigation" keypad
when the NUM LOCK is turned off.

Therefore the keys on the number pad are duplicates of the keys on the six
pack and the cursor cross located between the two keyboards.

The duel functions of the keys on the number pad is a throwback to the days
before the A T keyboard when the group of navigation keys located between
the qwerty and the number pad keyboards did not exist.

And, by the way, there were only 10 function keys on those keyboards.

When I teach JAWS, I teach the keystrokes as navigation keys, because that
is what you are doing when you read prior and next character, prior and next
word, etc. You are not using the number pad to enter numerical data into a
calculating program, for example.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber
