Well, if your Desktop has a wired connection to the router, it doesn't need to 
be connected wirelessly.  It's advisable to have at least 1 of your computers 
connected by wire to the router, so that you can access it for configuration 
purposes.  the Laptop  should be set up to work wirelessly.  You can also 
switch off local firewalls as the router will have one built-in.

Try using the Windows help facility on the topic of 'enabling file and printer 
sharing'.  This will give you instructions for your operating system on how to 
set-up this feature.

When you say your router is connected to your Desktop, do you mean you have 
a wire connecting them?
yes I think so in any case I just want to know how to network the 2 
computers
