steve you missed something in my earlier post, symantec has 2 totally seperate products, norton anti virus corporate edition think version nine is the newest. this version has no problem scanning fast. its also the version coorporations are picking to use, not the home stuff. and norton anti virus for home use. home use is designed for o e users. its model number will be like 2004 or 2005. this one is slow in my view. its part of system works. or sold alone. though i never did an actual time to determine which anti virus did what how fast. consumer reports does not put it into the fastest category in their recent review if you want independant info on its scan speed. by the way your right about one thing those 2 apts do have the lion share of themarket but most reviews reveal macafee to only be middle of thepack, indicating their are other good programs in the market that rate between the 2. in fact just about all of them do good in reviews with viruses in the wild. other areas like being able to see inside zip files and double zip files. e mail protection. worm detection. some now even claim to do spy protection, by experience is this is not very good. so these factors plus the ability to remove a offender makes the differances. norton has always been number one at removing offenders according to all the reviews i have seen but as i noted one can get the same effectness by using their free tools even if theydonot own norton. its ability to remove viruses is the main reason it often had number one ratings in reviews. now the competitionis gaining on n u. in fact one recent review put norton for home use at number 2. the scan speed may not even be a issue for you, the more files you have the more it becomes an issue for the end user. never used caspersky but can tell you its not a fast scanner either. it does excellent in reviews as you noted though am curious as to if it is jfw friendly. if you have used it let me know. by the way i am not saying that n u 2004 is a bad choice, on the contary its an excellent product, I am saying how ever that some who have moved away from it had good reasons. if you only have one p c, or if your hard drive is not cramped with files then no problem using n u. if you how evr have 3 or 4 computers or very large hard drives with tons of files then you may also want to check out the competition. their are other good choices. bill -- To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
