Hello Judith, et al, As a relatively new member of the list (in an older body)attempting to gain some knowledge of the issues surrounding JAWS, I find many of the problems fairly global. I think your reference to "losing focus" may be what I'm experiencing with Microsoft Word 2002. Since I write in this format with a Toshiba laptop, 2 ghz, Vista Premium and JAWS 9.0, I thought I'd have no problems as were absent with XP. Not so! After getting into the program to write, there is a slow deterioration in function, viz. sluggishness with all key strokes for letters, words, sentences etc. Pausing for a brief time to contemplate the next entry causes JAWS to "lose focus", not speaking for about 45 seconds. I've learned to hit Insert T to prompt me that JAWS is again working. One thing that appears to precipitate the degrading functionality of JAWS is using Control S to save what was written. After several hours (or sometimes much less time)in the program, I have to shut down, go back in, only to repeat the frustrating process again! All the while this is happening, I have the distinct feeling something is running in the background. FS was advised a month ago, one respondant saying simply that he had heard of the problem. I trust this issue is suffered by others, nevertheless bounced to the list scholars for a possible "cure" before the cure comes from FS. Larry P. S. And as others I also experience clipped words, particularly in Windows Mail. ----- Original Message ----- From: Judith Bron To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: jawslite@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2008 8:20 PM Subject: jaws losing focus I just heard that Freedom is coming out with a patch to solve the problem of jaws losing focus. Part of me will believe it when I see it and the other part is skeptical. Freedom recognizes this problem and has promised to fix it in the next issue. However, all of us have our current versions of jaws and need help now. To the best of my understanding this is why they are coming out with a patch. Let's wait and see. Judith
