inability to install jfw 12 update

Hello, all. I have a friend running windows xp service back 3 with jfw 12.
When she attempted to update jaws she received the message
"jaws cannot update due to a possible error with your original installation
file. Please repair original version and try to reinstall." She downloaded
the original from the Freedom Scientific website but she only has 1.5 Gb of
ram and the computer is six. She is going to replace it within the month so
is there any need to update jaws for a month? Thanks and have a Merry
