One more thing about the notebooks and laptops:
Adding memory or disk capacity is sometimes very expensive as compared
to adding the same capability to a desktop. Memory in particular seems
to be considerable more expensive for the laptops and notebooks.
I agree that 1 gig is about what you really need to keep JAWS going and
not a lot of conflict everywhere else.

This Thinkpad has a gig too and you are correct, sometimes the keyboard
on a
notebook is pretty bad. I find they are quite variable, the Thinkpad I
am
getting very comfortable with, the Acer is very similar to the PacMate
QX
and there is quite a lot about that layout I don't much care for, that
row
of home, page up, page down and end keys and no grouping of the function

keys although on the PacMate they do have some raised bumps to help.

I was pretty convinced I would never get the hang of a notebook keyboard
and
purchased a numeric keypad only to discover it too doesn't behave
exactly as
I had anticipated. Once I decided to bight the bullet and just get used
to
the darn thing I now find myself sometimes a little confused when at a
standard keyboard.

It is wise to consider more than usual RAM in a computer running a
screen
reader if only because it will always be one more running application.
After
that, if you keep a lot of sound, books or, for the sighted in
particular,
movies, then remember that when selecting drive capacity. After that or
I
suppose along with that there are special considerations according to
your
particular usage. Programmers who do a lot of compiling will want better

performance as someone here already mention, running multiple
applications
which are working but most of us, though we may have several documents
open
and maybe a spread sheet and one or two other things open, when they do
not
have focus they are just sitting there waiting for a keystroke and
unless
you are very clever to be able to be cruising the Web, typing a letter
and
calculating spreadsheets while chatting all simultaneously which would
also
include the need to be typing on multiple keyboards, few will worry the
processing capacity of any of the new computers.
