Good afternoon Judith,

If you would like to store the attachments on your computer, outside of Outlook
Express, do the following:

1. Open the My Documents folder.
2. If you want to store the attachments in the My Music folder, and it already
exists, skip to step 7.
3. Select the File menu (ALT + F).
4. Select the New sub-menu (W).
5. Select Folder (F).
6. Type a name for the New Folder and press the enter key.
7. You can now close the My Documents folder.
8. Open one of the messages with an attachment.
9. Select the File menu (ALT + F).
10. Select Save Attachments (V).
11. Press the Tab key twice, you should be on the Browse button.
12. Select the Browse button (Spacebar or Enter).
13. Browse to the new folder that you created.
14. Press the enter key twice. Your attachment is now saved in the new folder.
You are back in the message you opened.
15. hit the escape key to close the message.
16. Verify that the file was saved to your new folder. If the file has been
saved you can choose whether or not to delete the message from Outlook Express.

You will need to repeat steps 8 - 16 for each message with attachments that you
wish to save. Seems like a lot of work now, but once you have the backlog of
attachments saved it will be easy to save the new attachments as they come in.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance,
Everett

Dennis, Will the messages be removed from the attachments when they are kept
in this folder? Thanks, Judith

You can move the messages to the attachment folder, but the attachments
will still be attached to a message!
With Microsoft Outlook, you can write a macro that will attach to a Message
Rule, and it will save attachments to a folder on your hard drive, but you'll
need to use VBA code to do it, and you may need to confirm the save process
with each attachment.

With Outlook Express, do the following to create an attachment folder that
stores the messages with an attachment, but it won't save the attached file to
disk:
    1. First, create an Attachment folder with Alt+F for File, then F for
Folder.
    2. Create a new folder and give it a name like Attachments, then tab around
to the location, and left arrow once to put it at the Local level. The current
level is In Box.

    Now, create a Message Rule...
    1. Alt+T for Tools, then R for Rules.
    2. Select Mail, then New.
    3. Arrow down to "Message has an attachment" and hit the space bar to
check that condition.
    4. Tab to the next list and press space on "Move it to a specified folder."
    5. Tab to the next area and use the Jaws cursor to click on the word
"specified."
This will open a dialog allowing you to select a the new attachment folder
you just created, then select OK.
    6. Give the rule a name like "Move my attachments." Tab to, then select OK.
    7. Tab to Apply now... and press space. Follow the instructions.
Once the rule has been processed, select OK, and the rule will be executed
whenever you receive an attachment.

    Hope this helps!
    And

    Thanks,
    Dennis Brown

James, My friend has Eudora and all her attachments go to the attachment
folder.

You can't, simply put. The only way to do it is to manually save the
attachment to your music folder. There's no way for Outlook Express, or to my
knowledge any other mail client, to just automatically detatch anything from a
message.

I have a lot of music that is saved in my music folder. The problem is
all these pieces are still attachments and each time I want to hear it I have
to open the attachment. I was told by the user of another screen reader that I
could create an attachment folder where each attachment will go into the folder
and each song will become detached from the message.
I am using jaws 7.1 and my email client is outlook express.
        1. How do I create an attachment folder?
        2.
How do I store the folder so that attachments can be put in there
manually? I.e. I get the music in my in box. If I want to save it I can do
something to open the attachment folder and put my message with the attachment
that just becomes a detached song or message in it.
I need to know how to create the folder and all the instructions after
the folder is created.
        Thanks, Judith
