David: No! I was not implying that you were or that anyone else was. In fact, I did not get your message. Steve's was the only response to my question I received. Maybe you didn't get my message. ----- Original Message ----- From: "emarquette" <emarquette@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, May 16, 2004 4:42 PM Subject: RE: Synthesizer Configuration Data Steve: Thanks for the information. Indeed, you were not guessing. I was perhaps being too cautious, but I have encountered install routines that set everything to the default settings. I should have thought of the ini file. Again, thanks. I really think JAWS should have a built n function that displays this information, but perhaps it is not needed all that often. Open the JFW.ini file in your notepad. You'll ascertain therein that there is a list of synthesizers that you elected to install, with their short and long names and port info. For example, my jfw.ini indicates I have Dectalk Express, short name DTE, comm port 1 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, etc. As you'll see, I wasn't guessing. On my new office computer, after much trial and error (about a month ago), I (and the technical support people at my new firm) got JAWS to talk through my DecTalk Express. Now, I want to try a later version of JAWS, and what I recall was the set of settings (e.g. com port, baud rate, and the like) did not work. Can I go into synthesizer settings for the older version (through the install utility) without screwing up the settings that now work? Is there another way? Next time I will write down and save the settings. If you know, thanks. If you are guessing, well ....
