Hi Justin

Ok, first your questions, and then my answers underneath them for clarity.

At 07:48 AM 6/19/2007, you asked:

I would like to know if there is an available program that allows me to use my PC for recording these programs from XM and then allows me to transfer the file to a CD using Windows Media Player, Winamp, or a similar program.
There certainly is, it is called Replay A/V.
It is available for approximately $50, but believe me, it is worth every single dollar!
you can get more info at
http://www.replayav.com
This program has support for xm built right into it, you can use a line-in plug to plug your existing xm receiver into your computer and Replay will record the program, or you can also record off the xm online streams. The only real drawback to this, is that your sound card will be taken up while this happens. For other programs you can record with Replay A/V, the sound card isn't used, since it captures the stream in the background. so if you can find some alternative source for the shows you want to record, simply enter the address into the program, schedule when the program should start and stop, and it will record right in the background. no one into recording radio shows should be without this program, it is an absolute essential one, at least for me. You can't exactly edit files, but if you use JAWS with Winamp, you can set markers within the file so that you can go back to them later on. you can also set the program up so that it creates an audio cd after the recording is complete.

Ok, on with the questions...

Secondly, I would appreciate some feedback regarding the Jaws scripts for Itunes which have been around forthe last 18 months or so and I believe were developed in England. I am considering purchasing these scripts. I have downloaded the user manual which is not written very well, in my opinion. As an alternative to the Itunes scripts, has anyone been able to purchase songs from the Itunes store and transfer them to a file and then to CD, using JFW and alternative scripts that someone else has developed. For that matter, has anyone been able to work with JFW and Itunes without using any scripts? On a related note, are the most recent JFW upgrades, (jfw8 and above more compatible with the Itunes scripts?

In short, the answer is no. I find the Itunes program to be quite more of a hastle than it's worth, I heard a demo of the scripts being used and I was less than impressed because the keystrokes being used seemed clumsy, and the program didn't always focus in the right spot. There are plenty of other, more accessible tools for listening to and possibly purchasing music on the web, like Rapcity, and a few others I can't remember at the moment. So in short, forget itunes.

Finally, are their any scripts for Windows Media player which I find really cumbersome when I have downloaded a song that someone has sent me, or that I have purchased and I have to tab around in order to locate the track, add to a particular playlist and then burn onto a CD. It would be great if there were specific scripts to make this process a bit less of a hassle.

If the file you're playing is arregular WMA or mp3 file, I would strongly recommend the use of Winamp, since it seems to be a whole lot easier to use than Windows Media player. It is bulky and takes up much more on the screen than is necessary, at least to me. I know others may think differently, but again, if your file is a unprotected WMA file, meaning one that hasn't been bought from one of the services that delights in protecting the music so that only you can listen to that song on one machine, Winamp just seems like it would be a better player to use, since there are a lot of keystrokes, and scripts built right into JAWS that can be used. If your file has DRM or digital rights management built into it, I'm not sure if the current version of Winamp supports that, so you can certainly try to listen, but you may need to use Windows media player for it. Unfortunately there aren't any scripts built into JAWS 8, sorry to say.

Hope that helps.
