Robert,
Word repair is even more risky--it requires original installation media or the location where you've had the installation source.
Cheers,
Joseph PddS. Did you try using Word with JAWS versions other than 8.0?

Repairing JAWS might not be a bad suggestion,
after doing that and it didn't
help did you try doing a Word repair too?

Subject: Re: Repair on jaws 8 How?

hi. Ok, now we might be getting somewhere.
from your message you say
this only happens with word in JAWS 8. so
clearly, JAWS 8 and word
aren't getting along. That's beyond my
scope, because I don't
usually use word to write things down. You
might try biting the
bullet and getting ahold of FS tech support
and just explain to them
exactly what you told us, how JAWS 8 and word
don't seem to get
along, yet when you use JAWS 7.1 and word
together it works fine. If
those guys are worth the money they're paid,
they *should* be able to help
you.
Now as for these sticky keys, have you done
anything with them?
because sticky keys probably aren't the issue
here, it's just JAWS
being stupid and not acting like it should.
I've been using JAWS since 1998 back when
version 3.0 was out and
I've never once used sticky keys in my daily
life, and if I have
nobody told me!
Clearly this is a JAWS 8 only thing. If you
repaired JAWS and it
still doesn't read word documents properly,
repairing from the CD
isn't gonna do any good, because you'd just
be running the exact same
program and doing the exact same type of
thing. All the CD is is a
convenience type of thing. it just lets you
stick a CD in your drive
and do it that way, rather than using the
version that's on the
website. lots of people seem to think that
the version that's on the
cd and the one on he website are different,
and 99.9% of the time
that's nnot really the case. the only thing
that's different about
the CD version of JAWS you might get when a
new version comes out is
it has training materials on it, and those
can also be downloaded
from the website as well, so again, you
aren't really gaining
anything from re-installing it from the CD.
it's just doing the exact
same thing you did earlier.

That's about all i have for ya, maybe someone
else can help?

At 08:28 PM 2/1/2007, you wrote:

Thank you so much for taking the time to
direct me in this repair
thing. And its true that we should learn all
this stuff up front but
how much can a person jam in his brain?

I followed each step, redd the entire repair
thing, shut down booted
up and reloaded a .doc file in Word and
Insert down arrow key will
still not read.

Even changed my key board in case it was bad.

So went into Insert F2 managers, to keyboard
and to the say all key
settings. I reset them as Insert down arrow
and it still won't work.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"
/

So to check all this out I shut off 8 and
started up 7.1 and it
works perfect!!!

So what does all this mean for me? Well now,
spent a half hour on
phone with FS techs yesterday and the one guy
took me on a wild
goose chase and finally said he cold not help
me even do a repair
because I did not know where the file was.
You gave me perfect
directions and it was easy to follow them and
I thank you. But
still can't get 8 to do what I want it to.

So for now, I'll wait until disks arrive,
remove 8 and start over.

But there might be a setting either in sticky
keys or ? but this is
really getting me upset. I do a lot of
research and reading and I
only upgraded for the SAPI vvoices, not this
hassle.

It looks like that this little problem ain't
gonna go away
easy, and life won't be the same here until
that say all key begins
doing its thing for me!

So I'll just make this a challenge for
everyone out there and
hopefully we'll figure it out.

By the way, when doing a repair, it asks
you if you want to load
in any other synthesizer , should I add in
the sappy or is it already
loaded?

So take care all and hope someone can come up
with a reasonable
reason why say all will not work?

Oh yeah, once I shut down, there came up a
really strange voice
which spoke up while pc was shutting down and
reloaded. It might
have said something like speak now or now
speak, what the heck was
that? Is that something new in jaws 8?

hi. The only person who would know that is
your technition. This is

why I think it's so incredibly important to
at least learn this
stuff
from the beginning, because when you're in a
situation like this,
you're kind of relying on others for help
and that's not cool. ok,

if you wanna try and find the file yourself,
do the following.

1. Go to the start menu.

2. Go to the search sub menu. You may have
to press your up or down

arrow keys to get to it but it's there.

3. Press enter once and you'll land on the
choice that says, for
files or folders...

4. now press your tab key until you hear,
all files and folders
button.
5. Press your space bar and you'll get an
edit box to search your
drives.
The file name you're looking for is:

J8.0.423U_ILM.exe

I put that on a separate line so you would
be able to read it
carefully.
Just use your left and right arrow keys and
you'll be able to figure

out exactly how it's spelled.

6. type the file name, *exactly* as it
appears into the edit box
that says, all or part of the file name,
edit.

7. Now press your tab key 7 times and
you'll land on the search
button. Press your space bar, and the
search will start. to find
your results, press your tab key and you'll
find a list view. it'll

probably say 0 items, but that's only
because it hasn't found
anything yet. But with luck it will.
8. Ok, now if you were successful, you
found where your JAWS
instalation file is, and now it's time to
repair JAWS.
9. Press enter when you're focused on the
file. You'll probably
get a security warning, but you can bypass
that by pressing alt plus
r.
10. Ok, now if things have gone right, the
instalation screen will

have recognized that you have a version of
JAWS on your machine, and

it's giving you the different options,
modify, repair, or
remove. choose the repair option and JAWS
will do a repair on
itself. If it asks you to reboot your
computer, please do so. Then

when you come back up your version of JAWS
*should* be at the
factory defaults.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

To do a repair of Jaws 8, simply put the Jaws
installation CD in
your CD drive or run the installation file
you downloaded from FS
when you originally installed version 8.
When you do this on a
system that already has Jaws 8 installed, you
will get options to
repair or modify the installation of Jaws.
Select the repair option

and hopefully this will fix your problem.

Back again about jaws repair: Went to jaws 8
menu, tools, and to
remove jaws. Then as you said another menu
came forth but it only
had two radio buttons there.

 Remove jaws only

And

Remove jaws and shared components

Nothing else but Next and cancel

No sign of repair.

I was told that 8 has no repair menu unless
you find it somewhere
buried in the jaws files???

2. then go to programs.

3. Go to JAWS 8.0 sub menu, you may need to

4. go to tools sub menu, and then
to the uninstall JAWS option. Now we're not

you'll get a set of radio buttons, i believe
it is. your

will
be modify, repair, or remove. You'll want
to repair JAWS which
basically sets it back to the factory
defaults as if it'd never
been

installed before.
After this process is complete, you'll
probably be asked to
reboot
your computer, so do that. when you come
back up you'll have a
fresh

install of JAWS 8.0 as if it'd never been
installed before. One
thing
I should note, you haven't received your CDS
yet. So when you
receive them, the only one you're going to
need to use is the
one
with the SAPI 5 voices on it. You do not
need to re-install
JAWS
from
your CD at all. In fact you'd just be doing
what you're going to
do

and your version would be repaired or
modified again and you
don't
want to do that. so when your cds arrive,
don't reinstall JAWS
again. Just install your SAPI 5 voices and
you'll be good.
