No speech on any menu item

Hello listers:
At this time I'm using JAWS 5.0 beta. When ever I hit the alt button or
the right mouse button or whatever, it says, "Menu bar or context menu open,
etc. etc."
But it will not speak the menu choices what so ever... This is very
frustrating and the only choices I can make are the ones inwhich positions I
have memorized. Can anyone help?
