If you are using two identical Dell computers, but JAWS runs sluggishly only on one of them, this would suggest that the problem is with the computer and not with JAWS. Have you performed routine disk maintenance and clean-up on the slow machine?

This machine has a gb of RAM. I know that's not a great deal by today's standards but I never had this with pc's which had less. Also, I'm using the same computer, a Dell, at work. It only has 512mb and doesn't give me the same problem, and it is running more programs, often open at the same time. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Thomas J. It's this gradual slowdown in JAWS responsiveness that's intriguing. It seems like there could be a memory or handle or thread leak somewhere. Can't know for sure unless we observe the performance monitor when JAWS is running fast, and then observe it again after things slow down, and thencompare the differences in resource allocation. That might clue us in as towhere the problem might be. But having too little RAM in the computer could make this slowdown happen more quickly and to a higher degree. Have you checked ALL potential resource bottlenecks? Have you not seen the JAWS processes gradually consuming more (or less) memory or CPU utilization or thread counts or IO operations the longer they run? How about other processes on your machine? Use task manager in the processes tab to see this information. The presence of running JAWS processes can affect other, seemingly unrelated processes too. I've taken it to FS tech support to no avail. When I type a message in Outlook and to a much lesser degree in MS Word, jaws gradually starts to become very slow. To be more precise, the echo starts falling behind my typing. As time goes on jaws gets slower and slower. My typing gets to be a sentence ahead of the jaws echo. No, I'mnot a fast typist. Also the cursor gets sluggish. If I stop to review whatI have written, and do a control-home, it takes the cursor forever to get to the top of the document and arrows down very slowly at first to read the text. After a couple of lines, it wakes up and responds normally. This problem has been plaguing me for years, and I've consulted with tech support on many occasions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's not a resource issue. -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.com JFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
