Jay, you do not use the shift key at all to select noncontiguous files, as
Windows likes to call it. You first use your arrow keys to find the first
file. This will be automatically selected (doing a Say Selected Text will
confirm this). Now to skip the second file, press control down arrow. The
same is true for the third file, except that because you want to select this
one, press control space after pressing control down arrow. Now to confirm
your selection, do a Say Selected Text, which is shift insert down arrow. It
should only speak the first and third file you selected. Hope that helps.

Chris,

usually I do shift/down arrow to select first file, I tried switching to
control down arrow to unselect the second, then control down arrow, hit
space bar with other finger on control, but did not work.
is it possible you can describe step by step, how to select the first, third
files?

Maybe it would help me to get this once and for all. funny, I've been
struggling with this for so long. I have looked at help files, can't find
this function.

And, Chris, thank you for the help.
