Take NAV out first. A simple uninstall SHOULD do an adequate job, but
I've seen this program balk for no apparent reason.

If you want to do a really thorough job, try contacting Symantec for a
link to a tool that will clean out all traces of the program like a dose
of salts.

Yes I am and this is encouraging as I am waiting for my AVG disc
to arrive so I too can get rid of Norton. I chose the paid version so I
could get some help on the install because I am nervous about installing
it while Norton is disabled.
        thanks

I wonder if you are using Norton anti virus. Jaws 8 was
sluggish for me too. Today I got rid of Norton because I was tired of it
and switched to AVG and jaws 8 is hopin fast. Doing just fine.

                        Brian
Jaws 8 is sluggish in all things on my computer.
It's horrible in Word, e-mail and just moving about. I'm hoping a fix
comes out soon because otherwise I'm going back to an older version that
worked better. I've never done an upgrade when it first comes out and
now I know why.
Just opening my e-mail program there is a delay.
FS says they know about the delay when opening a message and having to
wait for it to read. In word using the control and arrow keys used to be
a breeze now it works like I'm going over punctuation or a date with
slashes in it.
With this new bong thing going on Jaws locks up
and if I hit a keystroke too fast my system locks up. It appears on my
system that Jaws wants the focus more than ever and if I do something a
split second when Jaws is trying for the focus I'm locked up.
It is just awful and FS has not been able to
help me with any of it.

It seems that the more it grows, the
less I'm able to have other projects open simultaneously without the
system becoming more and more sluggish. I rebooted a couple of hours
ago, and I'm already up to almost 25MB for JFW. I've heard of growing,
but this is a bit ridiculous.

I also tried using the jaws memory
unload feature.

After restarting jaws 8 and hit the
refresh key about a dozen time memory usage went up about 3000k.

I don't no what all this means unless
when jaws talks it keeps taking more memory to do it's job.

Subject: JFW 8 & a Possible Memory Leak
Problem

I forwarded my problems and findings to
FS, and they can't seem to reproduce this. So I'm hoping that one or
more of you might be having some of the same symptoms as well.

I'm using the latest version of JFW 8,
and when I keep repeating the same tasks over and over again, JFW seems
to keep growing in memory.

                                For Example:
If I start my system from a cold start
and have JFW load automatically where I'm at nothing but the desktop,
and then hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE and look at my list of processes, JFW is
using 15472K of memory. How ever, if I exit out of the Task Manager and
then go right back in without doing anything else, JFW is now using
15920K of memory. If I repeat this a third time without doing anything
else, JFW is now using 16192K of memory. After a fourth time, JFW 8 was
reported to be using 16456K of memory. Again, this is without running
any other apps, or doing anything else with JFW. During a day of normal
use, I've found JFW to be taking up to as much as 60MB. of memory.

I'm also finding that if JFW is set to
load on startup, then it usually wants to use a minimum of 2% of my
processor resources, but if I launch JFW via my hot key, then it usually
reports back 0% resources in use.

What got me looking into all of this, is
that my system tends to want to become a bit more sluggish as the day
goes on, and I usually have to reboot the system to correct this
problem. I didn't find JFW 7.1 put as much of a strain on my system as
JFW 8 seems to do, and with a 3.4GHz. Pentium D Dual Core processor, and
2GB. of memory, I wouldn't expect a lot of sluggishness. I know that if
I shut down JFW, then the system is a lot more responsive.

                                Blessings,

                                Brian
