You should not have any issues with what ever brand of external drive you
purchase.
I have found it better though not to use the software they provide with the
drive.
I just use it like a big volume on my pc.
External drives are usually formatted in FAT32 file systems.
I like them because you can unplug them and take them along with you if you
need to.
Also if you have allot of pictures it is a great place to store them and
have your screen saver access it from there.
Keeps your main drive from getting bogged down with files

Any particular reason for using an external vs an internal hard drive? I am
using a second internal hard drive and running XP Media Center along with
JFW 7, 8, & 9, with no problems.
You could always burn the data to a CD as a backup instead of using an
additional hard drive..
