External hard drives are a good choice if you need to move stuff from one
computer to another. You shouldn't have any trouble with JFW with an
external hard drive. I have a Western Digital MyBook Premium Edition, and it
works fine. I use a program called Karen's Replicator to back up my hard
drives onto it, and it has worked well so far.

Any particular reason for using an external vs an internal hard drive? I am
using a second internal hard drive and running XP Media Center along with
JFW 7, 8, & 9, with no problems.
You could always burn the data to a CD as a backup instead of using an
additional hard drive..
