Good suggestions all! When one uses control-e, however, one is using so-called direct formatting, something we all learned in the days of WordPerfect for DOS. The Word experts will all tell you that, though Word still has direct formatting commands for occasional use and as a crutch for those who refuse to use the Word philosophy, the best way is to use styles. Our firm is addicted to styles. We have styles for everything. Indeed, detection of styles, track changes, and tables was the main reason I switched to JAWS. My old screen reader was stuck in MSAA mode. Styles are definitely worth exploring. I had to learn them on my own. None of the tutorials I have found for the blind tell one much about styles. This is a real mystery since styles are the best thing for blind users. Once a style is applied, you are guaranteed the right font, line spacing, spacing after paragraphs, centering, numbering, indents, and the like have been applied. When you are finished highlight the lines you want to center and then press ctrl+e. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Danney Yates Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2003 9:09 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Centering Text in Word I have problems centering text in Word. That is, I know that if I hit "control E", the text will be centered, but it doesn't give a verbal prompt like the "bold" command (control B) does, so I never know when its turned off. I've ended up centering entire documents without knowing. Typically, I just want to center the top line or two, in a document. Would appreciate any tips on this, Danney To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
