I guess I failed to mention that I have called tech support, I’ve also dealt
with Jim Ellsworth and Bryan Carver without result.

I’ve also noticed that not everyone in the support department is on the same
page as far as solutions go. I have complained about this issue as well.

Please *call* tech support. I've had an email from the head of tech support
in which he states rather clearly that the email tech support is very much
second tier; and if you call for phone tech support, you'll get a much
better quality response.

In my case, he was right. I've complained to him several times about the
quality of email tech support, but for whatever reason his only response is
to call for phone tech support (assuming you're in the u.s., I didn't
attempt to check).

hth,

Have any of you experienced the following problems?

I have also sent this to FS without any results.

Hello all,

I am still getting the Error 6 message on two different machines.

According to your bulletin it states the following:

Details of Selected Bulletin

Bulletin Type: TSN Number: 18851

Date Posted: 09/21/2004

Product Name: JAWS

Version: 5.10 plus

Category: Authorization

Short Description:

JAWS does not function properly after returning from Standby mode.

Problem:

JAWS may stop functioning correctly after you return from Standby mode. In
some cases, the program displays the following error message after your
computer returns from Standby mode: "JAWS Error [6]: Feature is not licensed
to run on this machine." After you receive this message, JAWS begins running
in 40 minute mode. If you attempt to restart JAWS, your system fails or JAWS
continues running in 40 minute mode. If you restart your computer, JAWS
stops running in 40 minute mode and functions normally.

Solution:

If you restart your computer, JAWS will be fully activated again. However,
the problem will occur again if the computer goes on standby. It is
recommended that you disable Standby mode on this computer.

To prevent your computer from going on standby, do the following:

1. Open the Start menu, select Settings, and then choose Control Panel.
2. If you are using Windows ME, select Power Options and press ENTER. If you
are using Windows 98, select Power Management and press ENTER.
3. In the Power Schemes list, select "Always On."
4. Press ENTER.

All of this functionality is disabled on both machines.

I have been experiencing this issue since the public beta which was only
installed on one of the machines. Now that the official release is out I am
still experiencing the same issue along with other issues which I also
experienced during the public beta.

These issues are as follows.

1. Extremely long delay in JAWS starting after log on.

2. Loss of speech when downloading email.

3. Loss of speech after deleting a message.

4. Loss of speech while listening to other audio files.

5. After using a Braille Voyager for a couple of hours JAWS begins to
crackle with the cursor blink rate of the display.

There doesn’t seem to be anyone who knows how to resolve these issues. I
have uninstalled JAWS and all shared components and reinstalled without
success. I have changed environment variables according to Jim’s suggestion
without result.

Since I am experiencing this on two machines, a Dell 1505, and an HP with
different audio cards etc. I’m sure others have experienced this problem.

I would appreciate any help you can provide.
