there are advantages to XP Pro though in that you can customise user rights
more fully with XP pro.

Hi Tony,

Many 'techies', trained to install networks, follow the Microsoft
preferred method, e.g. using DHCP addressing. I obviously cannot say if
this applies in your case; I only know that when such a 'techie' set my
first network up, linking three computers all running XP Home, it was
disastrous. I ended up having to start again reinstalling everything
anew on all three machines. Since then I have used a network based upon
a fixed IP address and XP Home works a charm.

As everyone else has indicated you do not need to migrate to Pro to set
up a network. Ask him what kind of approach he was using and, if it was
DHCP suggest he try the fixed IP address route.

Hope this is of some use...

Cheers,

Clive.S
