I just did what you suggested and it worked for me in JAWS 10.
Brilliant piece of lateral thinking, might I say.

Try going into the application, press Insert D and bring up the Dictionary
Manager. Press spacebar on the Add button and in the first field of two
enter the name of the application.
Now tab to the second field and hit the spacebar. Tab to the Ok button,
activate and save with ctrl S.
Hopefully Jaws will now treat the name of the application as it would a
space and say nothing. Type the name of the application exactly as it
appears on screen.it may not have spaces!

Hi everybody, I have been trying to find out how I can stop jaws speaking
application name. I'll give you an example. I clicked on a link to an
audio verification on a website. Before the audio had even started jaws,
when opening windows media player said windows media player twice, by
which point the audio I'd been listening for was half gone. How can I
stop Jaws from announcingthe name of an application on opening.
