Hi Colin, There are different codes in web pages for generic English which, on the web, is considered to be American English and British English. Most English web developers don't bother to change the default American English code to British English so Jaws just follows the rule defined by the code in the page. The only time, therefore, that you will hear British English is when the page writer actually uses the specific code for British English. I read quite a bit of Italian. I must say, however, that it can be funny when Jaws makes a mistake and enthusiastically reads English in its best Italian accent. What baffles me, however, is why I get the British English as little as I do. I know that there are thousands of people who happily operate with their PC set for American English, but surely this couldn't account for the fact that about 98% of my emails are read in the American voices. Very strange Colin -----Original Message----- From: jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of tim.pennick@xxxxxx Sent: 30 June 2005 13:01 To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: lapsing into English Hi, In the 'text processing option' of the configuration manager there is an option to "detect language settings". If you un-check this, JAWS will always use your default language setting, whether you prefer the British, or US version of english (or for that matter any language you set as default). The only downside to this is that if you occasionally read web sites in other languages supported by Eloquence such as German, French, Spanish etc. JAWS will not be able to recognise web sites which should be voiced in a language other than your default. I find that it occurs when reading emails from certain sources. I deduce that you hate the English English as much as I do. Org Subject: [jaws-uk] lapsing into English Hi Folks, Not a serious problem, and I'm sure I have seen it before on here, but is there anything that can be done to stop Jaws from lapsing into english english rather than american english? It only occurs rarely, and usually when accessing complicated websites. It reverts to normal fairly rapidly, but it can be a little annoying at times. I am using Jaws 6.1.
