You have to basically click the set up filter keys link, make sure filter keys is unchecked and the second box is unchecked, then *shift* tab to ok, activate that, then click ok. Hope this helps.

David,

Thanks for this, but we're half way there....

In the ease of access area, the filter keys box was unchecked. However,
when I hold down the right shift key for the eight seconds, bingo, up
comes the sound effect, and jaws sets off in perfect navigation mode.

So now, I re boot.... and it comes back on again.

So now, I'm looking at how to save this setting.... I couldn't even find
the way to set a restore point which might have done the trick. Holding
down that right shift fixes things great, but when I wake up tomorrow,
it'll be screwed up again.... sorry if this is kids stuff here, but any
ideas on how to save my settings?

Cheers, Robin

Hi Robin,

Filter keys is a group of settings for helping people who have
difficulty using the keyboard, and one of these settings has the
effect that if you briefly press a key it has no effect, and by
default you get these clicks which you're hearing.

To switch filter keys off, you'll probably be able to use a keyboard
shortcut: press the right hand shift key down for about eight seconds
of so until you hear a sound effect. If this doesn't work, open the
ease of access centre (windows key+u), tab to the make the keyboard
easier link and open it, then tab to the turn on filter keys check
box, and press spacebar to uncheck it.

David.

Hi,

Windows 7, jfw11

Following on from my message the other day, new Toshiba l450-188
laptop arrived
but I had to get sighted asistance, narrator wouldn't load.

Anyway, I have JFW11 on now but I can't get navigating around the machine
without having to hold down every key for a short moment, then I hear
a soft
click then jaws announces what's nex. For example, press tab key and
you hear a
soft click, nothing happens, press tab key and hold it down until it
clicks a
second time, and jaws blurts out TAB. Even in lists or arrowing round the
desktop icons, I have to hold the arrow key down until it clicks a
second time,
then it will move in the direction I wwant.

Any ideas anyone? I have now sinceupdated jfw to the latest version
released
there earlier this month, still the same. Sounds like a system thing,
but I
just can't work this one out.
