Susan et al, If I were investigating my options now I would look at system access. £270 with upgrades free for the first year then £70 after that. www.freedombox.info Apparently this can do messenger email and web browsing. Not sure what else. I would also investigate the Mac screen reader called Voice over of which there will be a new one in the new year. This comes built into the OS. Not sure how good this second one will be. The first one was a good start but needs more work. This would also mean learning a new operating system. Nigel My opinions are my own. ----- Original Message ----- From: "susan mcdonald" <susan_mcdonald52@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 23, 2006 11:33 AM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: The great jaws 8 debate? >I am one of those struggling to keep up with the updates to jaws but have > been unsuccessful in finding an alternative screenreader that can go > everywhere and do things as quickly as Jaws, so if you come across a > screenreader that is able to do what Jaws does without all the problems I > am > sure we would all like to know so we can all have it instead of moarning > about the problems that Jaws is facing up to just to keep up with > Technology > > >>From: "Nigel" <stoppard@xxxxxxxxxxxx> >>Reply-To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx >>To: <jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> >>Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: The great jaws 8 debate? >>Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2006 18:45:30 -0000 >> >>I say they are a luxury item as a lot of blind people do not have such >>software. >> >>Nigel >>Do you have a sports car? >>----- Original Message ----- >>From: "Iain Lackie" <ilackie@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> >>To: <jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> >>Sent: Tuesday, November 21, 2006 11:14 PM >>Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: The great jaws 8 debate? >> >> >> > They haven't been a luxury item.
