Hello, I am using Jaws 6.00.406 on a Windows 2000 PC with service pack 3 installed. I have a 1.6 Pentium 4 and 1 gb of RAM. I also have a PowerBraille 65/80 attached. During the two years I have been using this PC, I have never known it to spontaneously re-boot, but since installing Jaws 6.0 just before Christmas, it has done so four times. There is no warning that the PC is going to re-boot except that the system becomes rather sluggish and Jaws will no longer report what is under the cursor as normal. Refreshing the screen with Insert+Escape cures this problem for a few seconds, but then Jaws becomes unresponsive again. When this misbehaviour starts, I check in Task Manager and my CPU usage is up at 100%. Shortly afterwards, the PC re-boots. On a couple of occasions, when I have noticed sluggishness setting in, I have managed to unload Jaws 6 and run 5.1 instead, after which point the system behaves normally. Another problem I have found with Jaws 6 is that, when reading through a long text file in Wordpad (500k plus), if I press Insert+2 for say all, Jaws starts reading in an entirely different position from where the cursor is situated. I don't know whether this is related to the sluggishness/re-booting problem or not, but there is definitely a problem which has been introduced into my system with Jaws 6. Also, when holding down alt and pressing tab to cycle through running applications, Jaws 6 only announces the name of the program about 50% of the time. I frequently have to release the alt key to find out which program I have actually landed on. The only difference in the programs I am now running is that I am using Jaws 6.0 instead of 5.10. Nothing else has been updated. Nothing is being written to the JFW.RPT file when the crashes occur. I've tried repairing Jaws but this has had no effect. I have reported this problem to FS but have not had a response. If anyone else has experienced strange symptoms on a PC with similar specs to mine, or if anyone has any ideas about what I should try to do to get things working properly again, I'd be glad to hear from you. I like some of the new features of Jaws 6, but feel that it's safer to revert to 5.1 for the time being until this problem can be resolved. Regards, Caroline Ford. ***************************************************************************************** Confidentiality: This communication contains information which is confidential and may be legally privileged.
