Hi Brian have not forgotten my query , as mentioned you already had Open Book, I not of course, so you finished up with both versions Open Book and later K1000 thus you are in a good position to give an opinion on the merits of the 2? You must have had a reason for getting K1000 when you had Open book, guess you will remember to give an answer in the fullness of time. Dear Dorothy:

If you had both Kurzweil 1000 and Open Book 8 available, you
could try having the file recognized by both and see which did
the better job.  In general, K-1000 and Open Book give comparable
results if you scan a large volume of printed or typewritten
material of varying quality.

So either can be used.
