John, They are .VOB files on this occasion but I've rarely had a DVD play using Windows Media Player without getting some kind of codec error. My problem is that Windows Media Player doesn't play the DVD that I'm trying to view as it says that it doesn't have the appropriate codecs. I was trying to find a way of either getting the appropriate codecs for Windows Media Player or getting another player programme that would have the codecs included. Either way I wanted to do it as cheaply as possible. Thanks and sorry for being thick! Is WMP a free download or is there a cost? But on the odd time I have wanted to play a DVD I have found WMP does the job straight out of the box. I've never been prompted to buy anything extra to make it work. I wonder if there are version issues at play? I'm using version 11 of WMP, on Windows Vista with Jaws 10. I've only used WMP to play a DVD, I have no idea how to go about cutting clips and all that fancy stuff.
