Hi Pranav, Well my friend, one thing is sure, change, is coming! I don't doubt that in the future, this whole jaws/j-say/dragon naturally speaking situation won't exist, since the days of screen readers like jaws are numbered, so, thus scripts won't be needed, either! All I can say is, come quickly! So many blind folks are going to the mac, with voiceover built in, and of course, windows 8 will be here in October of this year, and, depending on what happens with Narater, in a few years, maybe sooner, jaws won't exist, and that won't break my heart, when all along, blind people should have access to windows in the first place, so, we'll just be able to work with built in screen readers and built in speech recognition, or, just with dragon, so, either way, we'll have just 2 pieces of software to work with: 1. the built in screen reader. 2. dragon. Hi Harry, I feel your frustration. Sadly, J-Say is tied to particular versions of jaws. I hate not being able to upgrade. I am not the developer so cannot say if this is possible but we must explore other ways of interfacing with screen readers. You have many command systems for Dragon Naturally Speaking such as unimacro, vocola, knowbrainer and voice power. None of these systems control screen readers and therein lies the problem. I do not know how good the Jaws API is for controlling jaws from other applications. Have you seen saytools by Jamal Masrui (http://empowermentzone.com/SayTools.htm)? They are a set of libraries that allow a developer to interface with all windows screen readers. I was using them in a program I was writing and wanted to detect if jaws had stopped speaking. At that time, there was no way of doing so. I suspect this is possible using the jaws scripting language and using the dllcall routine for calling relevant scripts but that is a messy approach unless you have your own set of jaws which you call. J-Say mot only adds to Dragon but also it controls how speech and Braille are delivered using jaws. If the same control could be achieved via an external application without the use of scripts or not having to customize scripts for individual applications then we would be in business. I would urge T&T to revisit this so that J-Say can become independent of FS's upgrade cycles and T&T gets breathing room to take J-Say forward. Hi all, You're not gonna like this, but oh well. This j-say, dragon naturally speaking, and jaws stuff is so rediculous. You'd think in the 21st century, we could have a computer or smart phone, with 1 program on it, which could let you control your computer or smart phone completely, by voice, but we don't. Now, there is some voice recognition on IPhones with SIRI, but it's so in its infancy, it'll take years to let you controll the entire smart phone. Instead, we've got jaws, j-say and dragon naturally speaking, what a mess! I will be glad in the future, when that all will hopefully, change, and we can have just a screen reader and speech recognition, and not 3 pieces of software. I mean this is nuts! Now there is, in windows 7, built in speech recognition, but it won't work with jaws, so we're stuck with 3 things again. Jaws is the best screen reader in the world, so if you want speech recognition, with jaws, you gotta use j-say, jaws, and dragon. Now there is, System access, and you can use it with the built in voice recognition in windows 7, and it does a great job, but system access is absolutely horrible. Anyone who has it will tell you how slow your computer will run with system access on it. Very frustrated. Ann, That's correct. Uninstall 852 and shared components, If you already have 718 installed repair it after removing 852. Then install J-Say 10. Hope that helps. -----Original Message----- From: j-say-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:j-say-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ann Byrne Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2012 5:10 PM To: j-say@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [j-say list] Re: J-Say Pro 10.0 is Released! To clarify, then, I have to clear all the JAWS's from my computer except .718 in order to use J-Say version 10, because J-Say will discover my secret .852 and be cranky about it. Yes???
