Hi Jen, You will need to double check this but I thought the J-Say version 3 work with Jaws version 7.0? If the user is unable to upgrade to Jaws version 7 at this point, try a demo at least to eliminate one variable in the problem. I've went to see him this morning to get started. Everything is installed appropriately as it should (I've read and still reading the manual), except for one caveat. I just got off the phone with the distributor of J-Say (located in Vancouver BC), and he recommended due to limited expertise to see if I can enlist help on the list. The problem is a bit perplexing, and for me with loads of years of computer experience, this one has me baffling (and the individual I spoke with). I didn't think J-Say would be *THIS* unstable, but if anyone has some ideas. I am all ears. If I've missed something that I may not have told you, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification. He is using Windows XP, JAWS 6.0, J-Say Pro 3 Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8 Professional. JAWS and NaturallySpeaking came on when I booted up the computer. One thing I *DID NOT* hear was, "The computer is ready for you to speak to it". I experimented to see if the Dragon was recognizing his voice, and it was. I went into Word and had him dictate a few words. We know the mike works and Dragon is working, and JAWS is running, but *NOT* J-Say. I restarted Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and selected the user. It worked for a bit that time, however, once I gave him the direction to go to Word, "Click Start menu" "Go down 1" "Go down 1" Once we landed on MS Word, I told him to say, "Confirm that"..... that is when it quit! I had to manually selected via keyboard to get in there! Another thing I should mention, prior to my visit, the software was already "trained" by my friend BTW. However, another thing I forgot to mention in the beginning, when I mentioned when the computer booted up, JAWS booted up then Dragon, and the "The Computer is ready for you to speak to it" was not mentioned. I noticed a problem when I got my student to say, "Check microphone." Or even, "listen to me" or "Wake up". It was *NOT* registering at all from J-Say. It *DID* work, for the short time as I mentioned above. Does this happen frequently to anyone when the software boots up at start-up, whereas after the "User Profile" window pops up, J-Say doesn't always seem to "register" my student's voice? My friend has limited hand movements, so all commands are done via voice. (I am only teaching him, since there are not many people like me who has 10+ years of computer experience to understand what is going on...). If there are more questions, don't hesitate for clarification. I look forward to some ideas that may be useful for me to try. It is wonderful to see a few of the company's "techies" of the software willing to step in and assist with understanding this wonderful piece of technology. There is not a lot of specialized software folks that join lists to answer questions for us, if the end-user are stumped. Thanks and have a fine day, Jen and Nixon
