Web Root Not Accessible

Hey Guys,
I wrote in a few weeks ago about a problem I was having regarding a deny I was
trying to set up on my http://root.mycompany.com (intranet server). That was
sucessfully applied, and now no one from the other division of my company can
access that site, but when someone tries to get to http://www.mycompany.com (on
the web) they can't reach it.
Can you block a root domain internally on purpose and then have all external
access to the same domain blocked by accident? And if so, how to I remedy this?
