No problem - all you need is Basic auth (only) and all your problems are
solved.

Perhaps that is a problem with the mac's browser, the thing hasn't been
updated for ages.
Authenticating a Mac client is an issue even if you want to open file
shares. Great for home use that thing, can't go much beyond that =)
