Yes Joe, I had a similar situation and forcing the card to connect at 100Mhz full duplex instead of auto negotiation actually sorted out the problem. But if this doesn't sort it out, it might really be a main board problem. I've noticed that certain main board types have issues with capacitors blowing up. You can check by assessing the capacitors on-board for rusty deposits on the top of the cap, or enlarging of the capacitor. You can confirm this with a good capacitor for the size difference. Now I am trying to force 100mhz full duplex instead of auto negotiation. Hasn't hung yet!!! joe __________________________________________ Joseph H Leek JHL Mail Marketing, Inc. 3100 Borham Avenue Stevens Point WI 54481-5094 Phone: 715.341.0581 x 11 Fax: 715.341.9645 Email: joe@xxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: Mark Strangways [mailto:strangconst@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, January 05, 2004 3:07 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] Re: Network card hangs http://www.ISAserver.org I once had a NIC that would bail out on me after a certain throughput. It turned out to be a bad capacitor on the card that was leaking. I also had an issue where my external nic would stop responding, just as you stated. I would have to restart the server often. It wasn't a big problem because the server had a bad drive and was rebooting itself. A new drive with a subsequent formatting seemed to have solved the issues (knocking on wood). I have had an intermittent problem on my ISA Server for the last six months. About once a week my internal network card just hangs. There are no errors or any other indication that anything is wrong. If I disable it and reenable it, everything is fine. The only way I find out is the folks here can't surf...so they bitch! I have replaced the card with something completely different to no avail. Anybody ever seen this????
