Here's the script that takes care of it for you. Don't use SOCKS; it only
confuses the issue.

1. Exit (not signoff) MSNIM
2. Copy this script to the ISA server
3. Rename the script to MSNIM.vbs
4. Run the script (cscript msnim.vbs)
5. Install the firewall client on ISA (refresh settings if already
installed)
6. Start MSNIM (start, run, msmsgs)
7. Enjoy

Hi Jim.

I haven't much luck getting the File Transfer working. That was what I
mainly wanted to use it for.

Do you have to use Socks 4 Communication in MSN?

Which rules do you have create?

One more, (possible stupid question).

When it references to opening a range of ports, how do you do this. I
know how to create the rule for a specific port, but not for a range.

Thanks in advance Jim.

Chris.

Yep; seen it, read it and tried it. What i've observed (and have the FW
logs to prove it) is that MSNIM gets "stupid" for voice under the same
circumstances that it works fine with file transfers.

When performing file transfers, it asks the FW client for its own IP
using
GHBN and since I have my ISA set to report the ISA external IP as the IP
for
MSNIM, it gets and uses that IP when reporting back to the distant MSNIM
client.

When performing voice/video connections, it gets the local IP of the
host
it's running on and reports that back to the distant MSNIM client.

I don't know if it's the FW client reporting incorrectly for a given
request
or if it's MSNIM voice/video making "subnet decisions". That's one for
the
developers to deal with. Tom is of the opinion that we may need a MSNIM
"gateway" like we have for NetMeeting, and that may well be true.

Either way, it ain't working across ISA yet.

I just checked the help on it, and they updated a lot of information
about MSN messenger working behind a firewall.

It does give you the information regarding XP, but references that it
will work with other operating systems.

Did you see the stuff Jim?

Take care,

You won't have any success with this (yet, anyway).
It's a long-running issue with no clear solution in sight.

I have followed
https://premier.microsoft.com/premier/library/default.aspx?path=/premier
/kb/
en-us/Q278/8/87.ASP?KBID=Q278887

I can send video and transfer files with users behind the ISA Server but
I
can't with user's out side the ISA Server. MSN Chat works fine through
the firewall to users on the internet. Just can't get Video/Voice or
file
transfers to work.

Has anyone had any success with this?

Thanks, George
