Do you get an error when you try to send a file...? If so, what is it...

Hello Irving

I tried defining a protocol rule the same as one of the MSN defaults
except using incoming, and created a protocol rule, but I still can't
send a file or receive a file.

My machine is set up as a SecureNAT Client and a Firewall Client.

Is there something I am missing maybe?

Thanks Irving

what i did... In the connections of MSN set it to SOCKS 4 (Server_Name ... port 1080) In the Protocal Defs you will find by default protocals for MSN but, only going out. Make one for incomming as well. The rules are applied in this order: Protocal Rules Site & Content Rules IP Packet Filters etc. I only deal with Protocal Rules and Site & Content Rules. My IP Packet Filters are ALL open. Make sure you have the protocals that MSN uses defined ... and in Site & Content Rules I gave my machine access. The only problem I ran into giving MSN access thru SOCKS is when I had the option to "ask unathenticaed users for identification" checked in the "Incoming Web Request" tab in the properties of my ISA Server. If you make your machine a SecureNAT ... you will run into fewer problems. But, for administrative purposes ... i try not to setup any of my clients up as SecureNAT...because i won't be able to restrict by Username or Group ... i would have to restrict by IP

Irving

You have MSN messenger connection using Socks 4?

Which rules did you create?

Thanks,

Chris

MSN Messenger will work thru ISA. I use it now. I'm able to send files and messeges ... never tried Video or Voice. It works with SOCKS ... but, because of other software I configured my machine as a SecureNAT. You do have to make sure your rules allow the traffic.

Hello George.

To my knowledge MSN Messenger won't work behind the ISA server.
I've checked into this myself and found in the help file for MSN
Messenger that it won't work behind a firewall.

You can set up Netmeeting though using the H.323 Gatekeeper. Look in
the Learning Zone for Tom's tutorial.

Take care,

Chris

I have followed
https://premier.microsoft.com/premier/library/default.aspx?path=/premier
/kb/en-us/Q278/8/87.ASP?KBID=Q278887

I can send video and transfer files with users behind the ISA Server but I can't with user's out side the ISA Server. MSN Chat works fine through the firewall to users on the internet. Just can't get Video/Voice or file transfers to work.

Has anyone had any success with this?

Thanks, George
