I wish it were that easy, David, but the local domains in GFI ME are added and listed. MailSecurity also cannot tell what is incoming and what is outgoing either, as I have it set to only check incoming and it is snagging outgoing as well as incoming. I have even removed and re-added the domains to no avail. I have a support issue open, I think the tech's name is John. Please advise if you have any additional insight on this. Thanks! -----Original Message----- From: David Vella <davidv@xxxxxxx> To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] <isalist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sat Mar 01 16:35:20 2003 Subject: [isalist] RE: GFI MailEssentials 8.0 - Prevent keyword checking on outgoing SMTP http://www.ISAserver.org Hi Ed, It seems that your problem is that you do not have the local domains configured correctly. I like your idea, but want to use the auto-whitelist, and the limitation of being bound to only one VS is the hangup. I will let you know what GFI comes back with. Also, I haven't configured outbound mail to go through my relay, I send it to my ISP's smart host -- I have an excellent ISP, so I trust them to handle this important duty. If you're using a relay, I would still try out what I described, I think that would get around the issue, even if its not supposed to work that way :-) HTH, Tom Thomas W Shinder www.isaserver.org/shinder ISA Server and Beyond: http://tinyurl.com/1jq1 Configuring ISA Server: http://tinyurl.com/1llp -----Original Message----- From: Edward Sullivan [mailto:esullivan@xxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, February 28, 2003 1:57 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: GFI MailEssentials 8.0 - Prevent keyword checking on outgoing SMTP http://www.ISAserver.org Tom, I am working with GFI on resolving an issue we are experiencing. According to GFI, keywords should not affect outgoing mail, only incoming. They claim the setup you detail below is unnecessary. However, when I redirect our backend Exchange server to forward all outgoing smtp to our frontend screener, the keyword filter block outgoing messages. GFI claims it should not block outgoing, only incoming. In your setup does GFI MailEssentials block outgoing smtp that matches keywords in your keyword filter? -----Original Message----- From: Thomas W Shinder [mailto:tshinder@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2003 7:50 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: GFI MailEssentials 8.0 - Prevent keyword checking on outgoing SMTP http://www.ISAserver.org Hi Edward, Been using it since last weekend and thoroughly enjoying it. I wasn't getting that much spam, but now I'm getting maybe one spam a day, and its caching about a thousand a day! However, I'm using it on a SMTP relay that accepts inbound messages only. I haven't changed things around yet to allow it to handle outbound as well. The only reason for doing so would be to take advantage of the auto Whitelist, which is a pretty interesting feature. Not sure how you would handle it if you have it installed on the Exchange Server. If its not on the Exchange Server, create a second virtual SMTP server on your relay, and bind ME8 to only the virtual server accepting the inbound mail. Right click on the one of the nodes near the bottom (can't remember which one) and select only the virtual server taking inbound messages. Needless to say sometimes people here curse and I don't want outgoing mail checked for keywords, only incoming.... Oh, to keep this relevant to ISA: ISA is great! I love it!
