Tom, I am working with GFI on resolving an issue we are experiencing. According
to GFI, keywords should not affect outgoing mail, only incoming. They claim the
setup you detail below is unnecessary. However, when I redirect our backend
Exchange server to forward all outgoing smtp to our frontend screener, the
keyword filter block outgoing messages.

GFI claims it should not block outgoing, only incoming. In your setup does GFI
MailEssentials block outgoing smtp that matches keywords in your keyword filter?

Hi Edward,

Been using it since last weekend and thoroughly enjoying it. I wasn't
getting that much spam, but now I'm getting maybe one spam a day, and
its caching about a thousand a day! However, I'm using it on a SMTP
relay that accepts inbound messages only. I haven't changed things
around yet to allow it to handle outbound as well. The only reason for
doing so would be to take advantage of the auto Whitelist, which is a
pretty interesting feature.

Not sure how you would handle it if you have it installed on the
Exchange Server. If its not on the Exchange Server, create a second
virtual SMTP server on your relay, and bind ME8 to only the virtual
server accepting the inbound mail. Right click on the one of the nodes
near the bottom (can't remember which one) and select only the virtual
server taking inbound messages.

HTH,
Tom

MailEssentials 8.0...anyone else other than Tom on it? Anyone (or Tom)
found a way to prevent it from checking outgoing smtp mail, and have it
only check incoming? Needless to say sometimes people here curse and I
don't want outgoing mail checked for keywords, only incoming....

Oh, to keep this relevant to ISA: ISA is great! I love it!
