Hi All;
Well problem solved. Seems that it had some free cluster issues.
I did a "fsck.vfat -vVa /dev/sda1" and it is now reporting the
correct free space and i am also able to write files properly.
The hard disk is of make "crossfire" and windoze was used to create
the vfat(fat32) partition initially.
Thanks to all for your inputs/suggestions
