even i faced with similar problem...jus boot in
single user mode by giving 'linux single' at the
prompt where u choose between linux or win os.....open
up the file /etc/shadow....in the entry for root
delete the encrypted msg between first two
colons...then at the prompt give init 3(console
booting) or init 5 (x windows)....u can get inside jus
specifying the username(root) and need not specify the
pswd....then assign a pswd for root.
