This server has Windows 2003 server. By using task manager, I come to know
that 60% of resource is peak usage.
Option 1 : So planning to buy new server(IBM X3400 M3), install CentOS,
configure Samba PDC, remove thinclients, buy 15 desktops(Atom), install
Windows 7 starter in desktops and all these windows desktops will be
authenticated by Samba PDC.
Option 2 : Install CentOS in a high configuration desktop, configure Samba
PDC and authenticate all desktops.
I tried with second option for testing purpose. Here all data are being
stored in the system where Samba PDC configured. In this is the case, all
users will need to access the Samba PDC system to get the data time to
time. I think first and second options will create network traffic and
create slow issue again. Is it right?
Option 3 : Install CentOS in a high configuration desktop, configure Samba
PDC ,authenticate all desktops using Samba PDC. But data should not be in
Samba PDC system. Data need to be stored in local desktops itself. so
network traffic may reduce. Here server will be used for desktops' login
authentication only.Is it right?
This server issue is making me to think lot as I need to come out from
